Group Classes at Oregon Art Center (Oregon Society of Artists)

Chas Martin’s unique imagination is an integral part of the classroom experience. As a former art director and creative director, Martin is a skilled guide whose sometimes unorthodox methods gently encourage students to reach beyond their limitations. His teaching style is informative, entertaining, and focused.

Watercolor Essentials

A class for beginners and intermediate painters struggling to add vibrancy and power to your watercolors. Exercises will help you control the variables: water, paper, pigment and brush. Plenty of individual coaching.

Martin’s approach is fresh, fun and highly interactive. His structured format includes numerous demonstrations and exercises. Techniques address how to load your brush, manage water in the paper, create textures and more. Landscape-focused exercises include rocks, water, clouds, trees, reflections and shadows. Individual problem-solving demos as needed.

Demonstrations, guided exercises, and paint-along sessions help you build confidence and creative range in your work.

"By the end of a short series of painting sessions with Chas, pieces of the 'how-to' puzzle began congealing for me. He made it fun and non-threatening all along. I later realized the cumulative process that had developed and was pleased at my progress.” -- Elisa
