Lost. It’s a common feeling with a thousand variations. We all experience that sense of obscured vision where nothing is clear or recognizable. Everything seems foggy no matter which direction you look.My original concept started as a black cloud, an extension of a mood that soon passed. But the idea stuck.
It only took two or three sketches before i was ready to build this piece. I knew the mix of materials and had a clear idea of the sequence for building the form. How much of the figure would be visible below the cloud changed a few times as I built it. There is no upper body within the cloud, so I was able to create a structure that would add strength and stability.
Ironically, this piece is heavier than most because I reinforced the legs and structure inside the cloud. The illusion, however, suggests lightness.
